Privacy and cookies

FareAhead finds the cheapest train fare for each day on a route. You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name, email or payment details.
What happens when you search
When you search, our server sends the stations, time, and railcard type you chose to National Rail's journey planner to get prices. Your IP address and device details are not sent. We keep the results in our server's memory for up to 30 minutes so repeat searches are fast, then they're discarded. They aren't linked to you.
Server logs
When you load a page or a fare, our server records your IP address, your approximate country, your browser and device type (the “user agent”), the page or search you requested, which fare you chose to book, and the time. We use these logs only to keep the site secure, stop abuse such as automated scraping, and fix problems. This is our legitimate interest in running the site safely. We don't use them for advertising or to build profiles of visitors, and we don't share them. Logs are deleted automatically after 30 days.
The site is served through Cloudflare, which also processes this information to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Cookies and storage on your device
We don't set any cookies. We use your browser's local storage for two things:

If you choose “Don't save”, we delete any saved results straight away. You can change your choice at any time.
Our fonts are served from our own server, and we don't use analytics, advertising or social media trackers.
Booking on Trainline
Selecting a day opens Trainline in a new tab. We don't send Trainline anything about you beyond the journey in the link. From then on, Trainline's privacy policy applies.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Because we don't collect personal details, there's usually nothing to return. Email [email protected] with any question or request.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
